Shifting of Focus of Perceptual Attention in Embodied Conversational Agents

چکیده
We have developed a computational model of perceptual attention that interleaves top-down and bottom-up attention processes of an embodied agent in a virtual environment. What has been lacking in our model until now is how it would work when the one of the tasks being performed by the agent is holding a conversation with one or more agents. In this paper, we propose some modifications to our model that will integrate perceptual attention toward objects and locations in the environment with the need to look at other parties in a social context.

Sex Stereotypes and Conversational Agents
This paper presents some insights into the effect of ‘virtual gender’ on the way people interact with, make sense of, and build relationships with conversational agents. The focus is on the linkage between sex stereotypes and aggression, in the form of verbal abuse towards the machine. Implications for design of embodied conversational agents are discussed.

This study presents synthetic embodied conversational agents, and how they can be used to explore the persuasive potential of real embodied conversational agents. Utilizing a novel Wizard-of-Oz style approach and a direct measure of behavior change we explore whether ‘ideal’ embodied conversational agents have a similar persuasive impact as real people, and demonstrate the importance of visuall...

A considerable number of the research conducted in the area of Software Agents focus on the enhancement and the proper provision of online Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs). However, the ability of these agents to transform an ordinary visitor of an e-commerce who needs assistance to an actual buyer is yet of no notable weight. In this paper, we adopt a sell-based approach for online custom...
